The World Behind

"The World Behind" is a project questioning the framing of Photography: Whenever one decides to include something inside the frame, ones also decides what is excluded. This project is about capturing what was excluded, the image abandoned.

In April of 2016, I traveled to Rejakvik, Iceland with two cameras: one analogy 135 film camera and a digital SLR. As I traveled around as a tourist, I hung two cameras on my body. The film camera faced the view in front of me, while the DSLR was behind me (hung on my back with a camera strap). Whenever I decided to take a photo with my main camera (the film camera), I also pressed the Bluetooth Remote which captured the view behind me, via the DSLR. In that sense, the abandoned view was attempted to be preserved as well.

This project also attempts to question the gesture of taking a photo, whether the sense of sight is necessarily used whenever one is take a photo.
